Project 3: The Tray
Aim
Make a half cut rectangular prism with curved edge along each side which is know as a tray. The teacher has provided us 3 components to start this project, which is the aluminium, radius gauge and a block.
2xBlocks, aluminium sheet and radius gauge
1.
Use the radius gauge of the cut-out circle and draw the suitable circle radius onto the block of woods to make the curved side. I have used the 30mm one which is the hardest as my partner also agreed one. After, use the circular saw to sand out the block to the curve as close as possible.
Using the circular saw + results
2.
Draw lines 1 cm on the aluminium sheet to make it marking guide for the block to be in the middle of the sheet. Also, draw a curve using a circle of the same radius on each corner of the aluminium sheet to be cut later with a tin snip for hitting the corner later on.
Guidelines + Circle Radius
Placement + Tin Snipping
3.
Using the two block of woods to be in the middle of the aluminium sheet and push them together as much as possible. this can be achieve using a clamp. Later use a melee hammer to hit the showing aluminium onto the wood.
Wood clamping onto the aluminium
Melee hammering the edge
Result
As shown that the corner is not fixed while the surface is not smooth, which is why you need to planish with a planishing hammer to match your partners one as much as possible, in height and straightness
4.
Final Result with the partner as well
